| MANASOTA KEY HISTORY |
If you are not familiar with Manasota Key, you will be pleasantly surprised at its tropical beauty and island atmosphere. Many consider this key to be one of Florida's best kept secrets, for although it is only moments away from the mainland and easily accessible via the no-toll causeway, it has managed to maintain its tropical flavor by steering away the intense tourist traffic that results from high rise development. Instead, you will find low rise accommodations on the south end of the Key and breathtaking private homes overlooking the Gulf and Lemon Bay as you travel north.
Manasota Key is an enchanting barrier island off the coast of Englewood where there are no high-rises, no traffic lights, just a two-lane road and pristine beaches. There are low-rise multi-family condos and apartments on the south end of the island. The north end has private homes on one-acre lots, tucked behind lush tropical foliage.
Manasota Beach and Blind Pass offer beach goers a variety of amenities. Manasota Beach boasts 14 acres of gulf front beach and sand dunes, with special areas set aside for sheltered tables, barbeque pits, boardwalks and bath house facilities.
With more than 60 acres, Blind Pass Beach is ideal for swimming and fishing as well as a nature trail. Recently, the historic "Hermitage House", one of the first beach homes to be built on Manasota Key, was revitalized. There is also a docking area for boats on the Intracoastal waterway.
The temperatures range from mid 90's in the summer to low to mid 70's in the winter. A light jacket or sweater is all that is needed to protect anyone from getting chilly, and summertime breezes off the Gulf of Mexico keeps one comfortable even on the hottest days. The rainy season is during the summer and early fall with clouds rolling in about 4 or 5 PM to cool the daytime temperatures. The brief showers quickly pass with a balmy breeze and evening activities begin.
Southwest Florida and the beautiful Englewood & Manasota Key area on the Cape Haze peninsula invite you to enjoy the charm of this waterfront community. Bounded by the Gulf of Mexico and the waters of Lemon Bay, it is a small, peaceful community with great natural beauty.
